Settings Reference
Settings live under Edit → Editor Preferences → Plugins → Conductor Terminal; the gear button in any terminal’s top bar opens the same page. They are per-user, per-project editor preferences.
The Property name column is what the agent’s
SetTerminalSetting tool expects.
Shell and working directory
Section titled “Shell and working directory”On the settings page the two shell properties are replaced by a single Default Shell dropdown of detected shells, which stores the chosen shell’s label.
| Setting | Property name | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Default Shell | DefaultShellWindows |
PowerShell |
The shell new sessions use. The dropdown stores a label; via SetTerminalSetting or the ini the property also accepts an executable name or a full command line, with keep-alive flags added automatically. An empty value selects Command Prompt; a shell that fails to launch falls back to cmd.exe with an in-pane warning. |
| Default Shell (macOS/Linux) | DefaultShellPosix |
/bin/bash |
The POSIX equivalent. Retained for a future cross-platform release; unused on the Win64 build. |
| Working Directory Policy | WorkingDirectoryPolicy |
ProjectRoot |
Where new sessions start. ProjectRoot, EngineRoot, or Custom. |
| Custom Working Directory | CustomWorkingDirectory |
(the project directory) | Used only when the policy is Custom; shown only then. Relative paths are resolved to absolute. A missing or unreachable path reverts to Project Root. |
Appearance
Section titled “Appearance”| Setting | Property name | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Override Font Size | bOverrideFontSize |
true |
On: use the fixed Font Size. Off: the font tracks the Editor Application Scale. |
| Font Size | FontSize |
20 |
Size new terminals open at, in the renderer’s pixel units (rendered at three-quarters of this in points, so the default draws at 15 pt). The effective range is 6–40; the panel accepts up to 96 but values above 40 are clamped. Only read while Override Font Size is on; 0 also means “track the editor scale”. Keyboard and Ctrl+scroll zoom are transient and never write here. |
| Terminal Font | TerminalFontChoice |
Auto |
Auto, Consolas, CascadiaMono, CourierNew, DroidSansMono. Only monospace faces are offered — a proportional font would break column alignment. Any unavailable choice falls back to the bundled Droid Sans Mono. |
| Show Top Bars | bShowTopBars |
true |
Show the native control row above the terminal. Turn off to reclaim vertical space for side-by-side comparisons. |
| Default Terminal Tint | DefaultTerminalTint |
#1E2022 |
Tint that new terminals open with. Alpha is the tint strength, not opacity — at A=0 the pane keeps its stock background. Each pane can override this from its own swatch, and that choice persists. Changing this never repaints existing panes. |
| Setting | Property name | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Editor Context Injection | bInjectEditorContext |
true |
Append a snapshot of editor state — current level, selected actors, recent errors and warnings — to the Conductor Terminal skill whenever the agent fetches it. See Editor Context. |
| Enable Agent Notifications | bEnableAgentNotifications |
true |
Let the agent raise in-editor toasts via NotifyUser. Off: the calls still succeed but display nothing. |
| Setting | Property name | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sound Effects | bEnableSoundEffects |
true |
Master gate for all plugin sound. Every sound routes through it, so off means structurally silent. The editor’s own Enable Editor Sounds preference is respected as well. |
| Notification Sound | NotificationSound |
the built-in train horn | The sound played with an agent notification. Requires both switches above. Accepts any SoundBase. If the value is empty or the asset fails to load, the engine’s compile-success chime plays instead — so to go quiet, use Sound Effects, not an empty sound. |
MCP client config
Section titled “MCP client config”The same settings page carries an Unreal MCP Client Config section: three readiness checks with Fix buttons, and per-agent Write to Project Config / Write to User Config buttons. It is documented in Installation and Connecting Your CLI Agent. The page also carries short explanatory sections on psmux and tmux with install links.
Internal
Section titled “Internal”Config-only state, deliberately absent from the settings UI, but readable through
GetTerminalSettingsJson and settable through SetTerminalSetting or the ini.
| Property name | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
ScrollbackLines |
5000 |
Upper bound on scrollback lines held per pane by the native renderer. |
PersistedSessions |
(array) | Saved session records — tab, order, shell, workspace identity, active flag, tint and split layout. Autosaved about once a second on change; rebuilt on the first tab bootstrap of each editor process. |
PersistedPSMuxSessions |
(array) | Deprecated. The old PSMux-only record format. Still written alongside the new one during the migration window, and migrated forward automatically when PersistedSessions is empty. |
Where settings are written
Section titled “Where settings are written”Two sibling files, both per-user and per-project, neither normally committed:
| File | What lands there |
|---|---|
<YourProject>/Config/UserEditorPerProjectUserSettings.ini |
Anything you change on the settings page. |
<YourProject>/Saved/Config/WindowsEditor/EditorPerProjectUserSettings.ini |
Session records (PersistedSessions) and anything the agent sets through SetTerminalSetting. |
On load the Saved file wins where both define the same key, so an agent-set value overrides a
panel edit until the panel is saved again.
